UPDATE 1-Suburban Propane Q4 results trail Wall Street view
* Q4 loss/unit $0.67 vs est. of loss/unit $0.57
* Q4 revenue $150.2 mln vs est. of $166.9 mln
Nov 12 (Reuters) - Suburban Propane Partners LP (SPH.N) posted a wider-than-expected quarterly loss, primarily hurt by lower sales volumes due to the weakness in commercial and industrial markets.
For the fourth-quarter ended Sept. 26, the propane distributor posted a net loss of $22.9 million, or 67 cents a unit, compared with a loss of $11.3 million, or 35 cents a unit, a year ago.
The quarter's results include an unrealized non-cash gain of $2.5 million due to mark-to-market adjustments for derivative instruments.
Quarterly revenue for the company, which also markets natural gas and electricity, dropped 41 percent to $150.2 million.
Analysts, on average, were looking for a loss of 57 cents a unit, on revenue of $166.9 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Retail propane gallons sold in the quarter dropped about 13 percent to about 49 million gallons, the company said.
Shares of the Whippany, New Jersey-based company closed at $44.54 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Antonita Madonna Devotta in Bangalore; Editing by Aradhana Aravindan)
