JAL to seek 30 pct rise in international cargo charges - Nikkei

July 3 (Reuters) - Japan Airlines Corp (9205.T), Asia's biggest carrier by revenue, will seek a 30 percent jump in international freight rates from the middle of July as part of measures to bolster such operations, the Nikkei business daily said without citing any sources.

This increase comes after demand rebounded for shipments of LCD-panel-related parts to Shanghai and Taiwan and deliveries of autoparts to Guangzhou, China, the paper said.

On its North American routes, JAL currently requests 230 to 510 yen per kilogram, while European shipments are charged 420 to 540 yen per kilogram, the paper added.

JAL, which is bracing for defections among customers rejecting the hikes, is prepared to negotiate, the paper said, adding that there is likely to be a strong backlash from forwarders.
