UPDATE 1-Warner Chilcott gets FDA nod for Doryx 150mg tablets
(Recasts; adds details)
June 23 (Reuters) - Warner Chilcott Ltd (WCRX.O) said it received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the 150mg dosage of its Doryx Delayed-Release tablets used for treating severe acne.
Doryx Delayed-Release tablets contain unique enteric-coated pellets which are released only when they reach the small intestine, passing through the stomach undissolved, resulting in significantly less stomach upset.
The company said the oral antibiotic available in 75mg and 100mg tablets will continue to be offered. Doryx sales for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 rose 31 percent to $35.1 million from $26.7 million a year ago, due to expansion of pipeline inventories of Doryx.
The company said the introduction of the 150mg tablet, which does not have a generic equivalent, offers greater dosing flexibility. (Reporting by Anuradha Ramanathan in Bangalore; Editing by Bernard Orr)
