MUMBAI, March 11 (Reuters) - Reliance Industries (RELI.BO), India's largest listed firm, plans to spend about 1 billion rupees ($25 million) building a solar power plant, the Times of India reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.

The paper said work on the project in eastern state of Orissa would start during 2008/09 (April-March) and take six months to complete.

A spokesman for Reliance Industries declined comment.

Citing unnamed sources, the paper said Reliance also planned to set up solar power units in West Bengal and Haryana states, as a federal subsidy made the units economically viable. ($1=40.5 rupees) (Reporting by Devidutta Tripathy; Editing by John Mair)
