LONDON (Reuters) - A government health watchdog says women should drink no alcohol during the first three months of pregnancy.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence's guidance says pregnant women who choose to drink should limit their intake to one or two units, once or twice a week.

Here is a guide to alcohol units:

- A unit is 10ml of pure alcohol

- Men should drink no more than three or four units a day. The limit for women is two to three

- There is one unit in a pub measure of spirits or half a pint of ordinary strength beer

- A pint of strong lager or best bitter has three units

- A medium glass (175ml) of red or white wine at 13 percent strength has 2.3 units
