DAY 1: The case against Wright
IPSWICH (Reuters) - Forklift truck driver Steve Wright is accused of murdering five prostitutes during a killing spree between October and December 2006.
Here are the main details of the prosecution case against him.
TANIA NICOL
On the night she vanished, grainy CCTV footage caught a lone female, thought to be Tania Nicol, at the passenger side of a dark car, which an expert witness was most likely to be a Mark 3 Ford Mondeo, which was the type owned by Wright at the time.
A witness also said she saw a woman talking to the driver of car at the time.
Other CCTV footage showed a car, again believed to be a Mondeo, driving around in circuits the area from where Nicol is believed to have disappeared.
Nicol received a telephone call on her mobile at 23.42 that night which she did not answer. She never used her phone again and it was no longer detected by the operating company.
About 2 hours and 40 minutes later, Wright's car was captured by cameras using an Automatic Number Plate Recognition ANPR.L system, driving out of Ipswich in the direction of Hintlesham. The body of Nicol and Adams were later found in a brook near Hintlesham.
"Why was he out at 1.39 a.m.?" prosecutor Peter Wright said. "It certainly appears unusual; unless of course, the vehicle contained the body of Tania and he was anxious to dispose of it." Continued...
