JAKARTA, Jan 11 (Reuters ) - An Indonesian ferry with 200 people on board has had an accident in the country's east, a transport agency spokesman said on Sunday, adding 18 people were known to have survived.

Elshinta news radio station reported earlier that contact had been lost with the ferry, citing the families of those on board.

It said the ferry may have capsized between Pare-pare, on the island of Sulawesi, and Samarinda, in East Kalimantan. (Reporting by Olivia Rondonuwu and Karima Anjani, writing by Sara Webb, Editing by Dean Yates)
