 - INDONESIA TO RAISE CIGARETTE EXCISE IN JANUARY 2010
 The finance ministry plans to increase cigarette excise by
at least 5 percent starting Jan. 1, 2010, to plug a deficit in
the state budget, said Director General of Custom and Excise

 - IDX ASKS BUMI TO CLARIFY FUNDS FOR BUYING STAKES AT
NEWMONT'S UNIT
 The Indonesian Stock Exchange has asked PT Bumi Resources
Tbk (BUMI.JK) to clarify the source of funds used to finance
the purchase of a 10 percent stake at a local unit of Newmont
Mining Corp. (NEM.N) worth $391 million, its director, Eddy
Sugito, said. (Kontan)
 - PT PLN BATUBARA TO SUPPLY 8 MLN TONNES COAL IN 2010
 PT PLN Batubara, a coal miner unit of state utility firm PT
Perusahaan Listrik Negara will supply 8 million tonnes of coal
to 26 power plants in 2011, said PLN Batubara Chief Executive

 - RIAU IMMIGRATION TO DEPORTS ACTIVISTS AND JOURNALISTS
 Pelalawan Immigration office at Riau province will deport
foreign Greenpeace activists and two foreign journalists from
Italy and India for visa violations, said head of Riau

 - MUSLIM CLERICS CALL FOR BAN ON HOLLYWOOD MOVIE OF 2012
 Several regional branches of a Muslim clerics body the
Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) urged the doomsday-themed
Hollywood movie 2012 to be banned because it runs against
Islamic beliefs. (Jakarta Post)
 - GUNMEN SHOOT EU'S REPRESENTATIVE HOUSE
 An unidentified gunmen opened fire on the resident of head
of European Union (EU) representative for Aceh on Monday night
but there was no casualty on from the shooting, said Aceh
police spokesman Farid Ahmad. (Koran Tempo)
 MARKET SNAPSHOTS
 * Indonesia's stock index .JKSE rose for a fifth day on
Tuesday, up 0.2 percent, earlier climbing to its highest since
Oct. 21, with state miner Aneka Tambang (ANTM.JK), rising 2.1
percent.[.SO]
 * U.S. stocks rose to fresh 13-months highs on Tuesday as
upbeat broker views on improving prospects for two Dow
components offset dissapointing holiday spending outlooks from
Target and Home Depot [.N]
 * Oil prices rose slightly on Tuesday, topping $79 a barrel
as demand for oil products supported crude, outweighin pressure
from stronger dollar.[O/R]

 * Malaysian crude palm oil futures edged up 0.3 percent on
Tuesday, the fourth consecutive day of gains, but profit-taking
in late trade wiped out much of the increase, traders

 * In Indonesia, the state marketing centre, based in
Jakarta, sold 8,000 tonnes of crude palm oil at the higest
price of 6,853 rupiah per kg on Tuesday.[OILS/TEND]
