Kazakh BTA to decide on Temir Bank in 2 months
LONDON, July 2 (Reuters) - BTA, one of Kazakhstan's largest banks, will decide within the next two months whether to sell its largest subsidiary, retail-focused Kazakh Temir Bank, BTA said on Wednesday.
BTA, also known as TuranAlem, said in February it had hired Deutsche Bank AG (DBKGn.DE) to advise on Temir Bank's development and help value it in case of a sale.
"We have received a number of non-binding offers from international financial institutions. We are now evaluating these offers," board member George Iosifyan told reporters on the sidelines of the Kazakhstan Growth Forum in London.
"(It) will be decided within the next month or two," he said, adding Temir Bank could either be fully consolidated into BTA or sold.
Chairman of the BTA board of directors Mukhtar Ablyazov added: "We have had quite attractive offers."
BTA aims to become one of the world's leading banks within the next 20 years, Ablyazov said. The bank has representative offices in Russia, Ukraine, China and Dubai and holds shares in a Turkish bank.
Ablyazov said BTA expected to expand into western Europe and the United States in the next two to three years.
BTA is actively looking to hire top-quality staff, he said, adding the bank pays its managers no less than what their counterparts at the world's leading banks receive. (Reporting by Olesya Dmitracova; Editing by David Holmes)
