(Reuters) - Factbox on Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who was named England's Footballer of the Year on Friday.

Born: February 5, 1985 in Funchal on the Madeira Islands, Portugal.

* Makes league debut for Sporting Lisbon in 2002, scoring twice against Moreirense. Goes on to make 25 appearances for the club, netting three goals.

* Signs for Manchester United in August 2003 for 12.2 million pounds after scoring in a pre-season friendly against the club. Handed number seven jersey vacated by Real Madrid-bound David Beckham.

* Makes international debut for Portugal in a 1-0 friendly victory over Kazakhstan in August 2003.

* Completes first season with United by scoring the opening goal in a 3-0 FA Cup final victory over Millwall at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, capturing the first winner's medal of his career.

* Scores two goals at Euro 2004 but finishes on losing side in the final as hosts Portugal are beaten 1-0 by Greece.

* Scores in United's 2006 League Cup final victory over Wigan Athletic.

* Heavily criticised by British media for encouraging a referee to send off United team mate Wayne Rooney in Portugal's 2006 World Cup quarter-final victory over England. Portugal bow out 1-0 to France in the semis.

* Having helped United to the top of the Premier League and the FA Cup final, he is named 2006-07 Footballer of the Year by the English Football Writers' Association and the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), and also captures PFA Young Player of the Year award.
