UK gas terminal shut Monday, damage probe continues
LONDON, March 3 (Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell's (RDSa.L) UK gas terminal at Bacton remained closed on Monday afternoon as investigations continued into the extent of the damage caused by a fire on Feb. 28, a spokesman for the company said.
"The plant is still shut down and investigations are ongoing," the spokesman said, adding that it was still unclear for how long the terminal would be closed.
The pipeline feeding gas from North Sea fields through the terminal on the east coast of England and then into the national network was meeting just under 10 percent of current demand for the fuel before the fire broke out in a waste treatment unit.
Gas market players have responded by taking gas out of storage to help heat homes and supply enough fuel for Britain's many gas-fired power stations. Imports from contintental Europe have also been stepped up and overall supplies have remained comfortable, according to National Grid (NG.L) data.
