LISBON, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Portugal's Galp Energia (GALP.LS) said on Wednesday it would appeal against a European Commission fine for playing a role in a cartel and coordinating bitumen prices in Spain.

The Commission fined Galp 8.7 million euros ($12.33 million) on Wednesday for playing a role in the cartel, along with three other companies.

"Galp Energia considers this fine totally disproportionate and awaits the text with the complete decision to appeal it," Galp said.

The Commission's fines amount to a total of 183.6 million euros ($260.2 million) and also includes fines to Spanish energy groups Cepsa (CEP.MC), Repsol (REP.MC) and Nynas of Sweden.

Cepsa said earlier it would also appeal against the Commission's fine.
