LONDON (Reuters) - A teenage boy appeared in court on Thursday, charged with the murder of a 12-year-old girl shot in the head in Greater Manchester.

Kamilah Peniston died in hospital on Tuesday after being found at her home in Gorton with a gunshot wound to her head the previous evening.

The boy, aged 16, was charged with murder and with possession of a firearm and ammunition. He appeared at Manchester City Magistrates Court.

He cannot be named for legal reasons.

The young girl's death stunned neighbours and the wider community who described her as an intelligent and delightful child.
