LONDON (Reuters) - Pete Doherty failed to attend a court appearance on Tuesday at which he was due to be sentenced for a string of drug offences because he has checked himself in to rehab.

The case was adjourned until October 2 after West London Magistrates Court heard the singer was receiving treatment for his addiction.

Four weeks ago, district Judge Davinder Lachlar postponed sentencing for Doherty, 28, to show his commitment to detox treatment.

She granted bail on condition that the singer live and sleep at an address in Somerset.

Less than two weeks later, he was arrested in Tower Hamlets in east London on suspicion of possessing drugs, after performing with his band Babyshambles at the V Festival in Staffordshire.

But prosecutors were forced to abandon their case against him for breaching bail terms after they exceeded a 24-hour limit for bringing the case.

Doherty, the on-off boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss, pleaded guilty in July to possessing crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine. He also admitted two driving offences.
