Ex-drug squad cop arrested with 7 kg hashish

VIENNA (Reuters) - A Swiss former drug enforcement officer was arrested at Vienna's international airport with 7 kg (15 lb) of hashish in his suitcase, Austrian police said on Wednesday.

Flying in from the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, the man was detained on Friday shortly before boarding a plane to Amsterdam after authorities found the hashish hidden beneath a false bottom in his luggage during a routine control, police said in a statement.

The 31-year-old told Austrian police he used to work in drugs enforcement and embassy protection in the Swiss capital, Berne, but quit his job three months ago for reasons of conscience.
