FACTBOX - London's Olympic stadium

LONDON - The organisers of the London 2012 Olympic Games have unveiled the design of the main stadium.

Here are some details:

-- The bid price of the stadium, based on 2004 figures, was 280 million pounds. The cost in 2007, which includes inflation, VAT, legacy conversion and earthworks, is 496 million.

-- Seating during the games will be for 80,000, going down to 25,000 afterwards as upper tiers are taken away. During the Games, 60,000 seats will be for the general public, and the remaining 20,000 will be for sponsors, the media and other organisations.

-- The stadium will house a permanent athletics track after the Games.

-- A roof will cover two-thirds of the spectators.

-- A fabric curtain will wrap around the stadium structure, which could be used for plastic bags after the games.

-- Food facilities and shops will be housed in pods, or villages, outside the stadium.

-- Work began on clearing the site in Stratford, east London, in July 2007, and is due to be completed in the summer of 2011. A total of 28 buildings have been demolished, with the final five going by the end of 2007.
