Staples has 9.5 pct of Corporate Express
AMSTERDAM, June 7 (Reuters) - U.S. office supplies retailer Staples Inc (SPLS.O) has acquired 9.51 percent of its 1.7 billion euro ($2.7 billion) acquisition target and peer Corporate Express CXP.AS.
Staples made the filing with Dutch market regulator AFM on June 4, the regulator said.
Earlier this week Corporate Express entered talks with Staples after it had lifted its offer for the Dutch company and urged shareholders to spurn Corporate Express' own takeover plan of privately owned French peer Lyreco.
Staples said it agreed to buy 12.3 percent of Corporate Express and that an additional 23.3 percent of shareholders have committed to accepting the new takeover offer.
Hedge fund Halcyon Asset Management LLC, which also supports Staples' bid, has 5.67 percent of Corporate Express, a June 4 filing with the market regulator showed.
