Massive fan alcohol consumption in Basel

GENEVA (Reuters) - Euro 2008's two opening matches passed off without serious incident in the stadiums but there were disturbances in Basel and four people were temporarily held in custody, police said on Sunday.
"Massive alcohol consumption led to a series of incidents of shoving and some fighting but they did not have any serious consequences," Basel police said.
Twelve people were taken to a special temporary jail in the city for either vandalism or aggression towards officers, four of whom were held in custody, police said in a statement.
Around 20 people had to make use of a sobering-up facility and roughly 200 were treated for minor injuries and problems with their blood pressure, the statement said.
A Geneva police spokesman said there were no serious incidents in that city.
