EU's Solana plans no Iran trip but sees talks soon
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union reaffirmed on Wednesday that foreign policy chief Javier Solana expects talks with Iran soon on its disputed nuclear programme but said he did not plan any trip to Tehran.
"A meeting will take place soon, a place and date has not yet been fixed. It is not foreseen to go to Tehran," Solana's spokeswoman said after Iran's Fars News Agency said he would travel to Tehran on July 19.
Solana travelled to Tehran last month to present a package of incentives proposed by world powers to coax Iran to halt sensitive nuclear work the West fears is aimed making bombs, a charge Tehran denies. Previous encounters between Solana and his Iranian counterpart have taken place in various European cities.
