Iraq Qaeda-led group kills abducted officers-Web

DUBAI (Reuters) - The self-styled Islamic State in Iraq, an al Qaeda-led militant group, posted a video on Thursday showing the killing of nine abducted police and army officers, after an ultimatum it gave to the Iraqi government expired.

The footage, posted on a Web site used by insurgent groups, showed a militant wearing a black mask shoot them in the head with a pistol as they kneeled in a field.

Some militants filmed the operation with several video cameras while others with assault rifles watched from a distance.

"After the deadline set by the Islamic State in Iraq was reached, the sharia (Islamic law) court decided to carry out the ruling of God against those apostates," an on-screen message said.

On Monday, the group announced the arrest of the officers and showed their pictures, demanding that the government hand over officers involved in the suspected rape of Sabreen al-Janabi, a Sunni Muslim woman, within 72 hours.

Janabi has said she was raped by officers from the Shi'ite-dominated police force. The government said medical records showed she was not raped.

It also demanded that the government hand over officers it said were involved in atrocities against Sunni Muslims in the northern town of Tal Afar. It gave no details.

An old audio recording from a statement by al Qaeda's Iraq wing leader Abu Hamza al-Muhajir was edited into the tape. The militant leader, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was calling for retaliation after the alleged rape.
