Mr Bean claims second week as top film
LONDON (Reuters) - Rowan Atkinson's hapless alter ego Mr Bean held on over the Easter weekend for a second week at the top of the British box office, according to Screen International on Wednesday.
"Mr Bean's Holiday," one of the biggest-grossing UK debuts over the past year, took another 2.45 million pounds between April 6 and 8 for a gross so far of 14 million pounds.
Bean's bumbling exploits in France kept comedy newcomer "Blades of Glory" from top spot. Starring Will Ferrell and Jon Heder as a pair of rival figure skaters, the Paramount film took 1.02 million pounds, including previews.
Down one place at third was "300," the story of the bloody battle in 480 BC which pitched 300 Spartans against a huge army of Persians.
New at four was the critically acclaimed "Sunshine," the story of a desperate space mission to reignite a fading Sun, while down one place at five was the animated boy genius of "Meet the Robinsons."
New at six was "The Messengers," in which a North Dakota family finds horror in a sunflower field, while Sandra Bullock's disturbing visions of the future in "Premonition" were down two places to seventh.
Eighth, also down two, were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of "TMNT" whilst the biggest faller of the week, down six places at nine, was the mutant cannibal horror of "The Hills have Eyes II."
At 10 down from seven was the story of William Wilberforce's fight against the transatlantic slave trade in "Amazing Grace."
