LONDON (Reuters) - Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho is to have a back scan on Monday after he became the latest player to join the club's injury list.

The Portuguese international came off during the first half of Chelsea's 1-1 Premier League draw with Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, adding to manager Avram Grant's injury woes.

The Israeli is already without first choice goalkeeper Peter Cech and defenders John Terry, Ashley Cole and Paulo Ferreira.

However, Grant said that Cole was fit to return and would be made available for England this week, although he has not played since the middle of October when he picked up an ankle injury on international duty.

Grant told reporters after Sunday's match: "We have too many injuries. It is not easy to play without all the back four and goalkeeper from the last few months. This is the reason we have a big squad, but it is unusual."

The Chelsea Web site (www.chelseafc.co.uk) confirmed on Monday that Carvalho would have a scan on his back.
