Telekom Austria said talking to Sistema - paper

VIENNA, May 13 (Reuters) - Telekom Austria (TELA.VI) is talking to Russia's Sistema (SSAq.L) about a stake in the Austrian company's mobile operation, newspaper Wirtschaftsblatt said on Tuesday.
It also said Vodafone (VOD.L) and Telefonica (TEF.MC) were possible partners but the Russian company was more likely.
However, Sistema dismissed the report.
"We have no intention to join Telekom Austria in any way for the time being. We are constantly looking for business opportunities worldwide. If there is any proposal we will carefully consider it," a spokesman said.
The report follows a claim last week that Telekom Austria's main shareholder, state holding company OeIAG, was ready to split its fixed line and mobile units, floating both.
The paper said Sistema's largest shareholder, its chairman, Vladimir Yevtushenkov, was interested only in the mobile operation and talks had been going on for some months.
MTS (MBT.N), a major mobile operator across the former Soviet Union, is part of the Sistema conglomerate. Continued...
