Intracom Telecom signs 40 mln euro Syrian deal

ATHENS, May 13 (Reuters) - Greek telecoms equipment maker Intracom Telecom said on Tuesday it signed a 40 million euro ($61.82 million) contract to supply the Syrian Wireless Organization (SWO) with a wireless communications network.

The project, to be completed in 22 months, will provide a wireless network to public institutions with emergency and disaster communications.

Intracom Telecom is 51 percent held by Russian hi-tech firm Sitronics (SITRIq.L) with the remaining 49 percent owned by Intracom Holdings (INRr.AT).

"This project establishes a key strategic partnership with SWO, further leveraging our potential in the region and broadening our international business portfolio," said Intracom Telecom Managing Director Alexandros Manos in a statement.

Intracom Telecom has subsidiaries in 14 countries, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Libya. (Reporting by Stelios Bouras; Editing by Louise Ireland)
