LONDON, July 14 (Reuters) - UBS AG (UBSN.VX) has hired Per E Larsson, chief executive of Borse Dubai, to head up business in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the Swiss bank said on Monday.
Larsson will join UBS on Oct. 1 and will be based in Dubai, reporting to Alex Wilmot-Sitwell, co-head of global investment banking and group head for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
As CEO of Borse Dubai, Larsson was instrumental in the creation of a partnership between the Nasdaq OMX and the Dubai International Financial Exchange (DIFX), UBS said.
Until recently, Larsson was also on the DIFX board.
Larsson will replace Peter Burnett who heads up MENA investment banking.
Separately, Michel Adjadj will be appointed chairman for MENA, in addition to his role as head of Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East and African wealth management business.
"The Middle East and North Africa is one of our most important growth markets and these appointments are a further step in demonstrating our long-term commitment to the region," Wilmot-Sitwell said in a statement. Continued...
