GROS ISLET, St Lucia, April 15 (Reuters) - Half-centuries by Mahela Udawatte and Tillakaratne Dilshan led Sri Lanka to a total of 257 for eight in the third and final one-dayer against West Indies on Tuesday.
The home team made a bright start when Daren Powell removed Kumar Sangakkara for one as he spooned a leading edge to Darren Sammy at cover.
Powell then produced a superb one-handed catch at short fine leg to dismiss captain Mahela Jayawardene for 17 off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo.
More plaudits followed for Powell when he had Chamara Silva caught behind by keeper Denesh Ramdin for six, leaving Sri Lanka toiling on 44 for three.
Udawatte joined forces with Chamara Kapugedera to share a stand of 84 before the latter was caught and bowled for 40 by skipper Chris Gayle.
Opener Udawatte's 122-ball knock came to an end on 73 when he was brilliantly stumped down the leg side by Ramdin off spinner Gayle.
He had hit only five fours and one six but held the innings together.
Sri Lanka were then boosted by a typically lively performance by Dilshan, who struck 64 in 54 balls and shared a quickfire partnership of 79 with Kaushalya Weeraratne (41). Continued...
