(Reuters) - A jury failed to reach a verdict against three men charged with helping to plan the suicide bomb attacks on July 7, 2005 that killed 52 commuters on London's transport system.

* WHO ARE THEY?
-- Those accused were: Mohammed Shakil, Sadeer Saleem and Waheed Ali, formerly known as Shipon Ullah. All three are from Beeston, Leeds, the city that was home to three of the four July 7 suicide bombers.
-- The men were the first to be charged over the attacks on three underground trains and a bus in London.
* WHAT HAPPENED?
-- Prosecutors said that between November 17, 2004 and July 8, 2005, the three men "unlawfully and maliciously" conspired with the four bombers and others unknown to cause explosions likely to endanger life or cause serious harm and injury on the transport network or at tourist attractions in the capital.
-- The court was told the men helped the bombers scout for potential targets in the capital in December 2004.
