HELSINKI, July 18 (Reuters) - Nokia Siemens Networks [NSN.UL] said on Friday it will prioritise its broadband research investments on DSL and fibre-based next generation optical access (NGOA) technologies.

NSN said an enormous hunger for bandwidth was driving the fixed broadband access networks and would lead into a 100-fold traffic growth by 2015.

"Fibre is progressing closer to the home with the focus today on fibre-to-the-kerb or building with last mile connectivity based on proven DSL technology," said NSN Chief Market Operations Officer Christoph Caselitz.

NSN also said it would limit its investment into existing Gigabit Passive Optical Networks, saying the mass market roll-out of fibre-to-the-home was unlikely in the short term due to regulatory uncertainty and the operators' business cases. (Reporting by Agnieszka Flak; Editing by Paul Bolding)
