U.S. platinum futures hit record high above $2,100
LONDON, Feb 18 (Reuters) - U.S. platinum futures surged to a record high above $2,100 an ounce in electronic trade on Monday, as investors heavily bought the metal on worries over production problems in top producer South Africa, traders said.
The most active U.S. contract PLJ8 rose as high as $2,108.90 an ounce by 1016 GMT, up $45.20 from late New York levels on Friday.
Spot platinum XPT= also extended gains, hitting a record high of $2,095/2,105 an ounce, versus $2,050/2,055 in the U.S. market on Friday.
