Kazakh miners hit by metals export duty proposals
LONDON, April 18 (Reuters) - Shares in Kazakhmys (KAZ.L) and ENRC (ENRC.L) fell over 5 percent on Friday, as traders cited Kazakh government proposals to impose a metals export duty.
Kazakhstan may impose a customs duty on exports of metals and other mining industry products and will decide on its size by the end of April, Deputy Finance Minister Daulet Yergozhin said.
Kazakh metals majors strongly criticised the proposal in an open letter to the government, saying the move would make their products less competitive on the global market.
At 1002 GMT, Kazakhmys shed 8.8 percent, while ENRC was 5.7 percent lower to lead the FTSE 100 .FTSE losers' list.
