ArcelorMittal wins in Kazakhstan tax appeal case
ASTANA, June 19 (Reuters) - A Kazakh court confirmed on Thursday its decision to cancel a $830 million back tax claim against ArcelorMittal's (ISPA.AS) local subsidiary, officials at the company and the Tax Committee said.
ArcelorMittal had earlier won an appeal against the fine in the Karaganda regional court, but the Tax Committee challenged the decision, accusing the company of tax evasion.
"We consider our demands legal and we plan to appeal to the Supreme Court," a spokeswoman for the Tax Committee said.
An ArcelorMittal spokesman in Kazakhstan confirmed the court win, but declined to make further comments.
ArcelorMittal's Kazakh unit, ArcelorMittal Temirtau, accounts for the bulk of the country's steel output which is mostly exported to Russia, Iran and China. (Reporting by Raushan Nurshayeva; Writing by Olzhas Auyezov)
