Soccer-Troubled start for Peru coach Uribe
LIMA, March 20 (Reuters) - Julio Cesar Uribe's second stint as Peru coach has begun amid injury problems, criticism of his conduct from the country's referees and a simmering row between striker Claudio Pizarro and the federation.
"The problems are there to be resolved," Uribe, whose team face Japan away in a friendly on Saturday, told reporters after the first training session under his command.
"I've come here to do a job and I'm not going to allow these things to affect my work."
Uribe took charge of the team one day after being involved in ugly scenes in his last game with club side Cienciano.
Cienciano surrendered a two-goal lead as they lost 3-2 home at home to Melgar on Sunday.
Uribe ran on to the pitch at the end of the game to lead furious protests against the referee after he awarded the visitors a last-minute penalty.
Winston Reategui, head of the Peruvian referees' association, called for sanctions against Uribe, Cienciano president Juvenal Silva -- who is also head of the Peruvian federation's national teams committee -- and the club's stadium.
"We can't wait for something bad to happen before taking relevant measures to avoid later tragedies," Reategui said. "The home teams are obliged to guarantee safety, on and off the field."
