CORRECTED - France keen to buy out Siemens Areva NP stake -report
(Corrects to clarify story is talking about Siemens stake in joint venture with Areva, called Areva NP, not Areva itself)
FRANKFURT, July 21 (Reuters) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy plans to make use of an option to buy out Germany's Siemens stake in its joint venture with state-controlled nuclear group Areva (CEPFi.PA) and forge a major national energy company, a German magazine reported.
Sarkozy wants to merge Areva with industrial group Alstom (ALSO.PA) and conglomerate Bouygues (BOUY.PA), WirtschaftsWoche reported, citing company sources in a preview of story to be published on Monday.
Alstom's chief executive Patrick Korn is designated to head the new company, the report said.
A French government official who declined to be named said the presidency had no comment on the report. Siemens was not immediately available for comment.
Last month, the German industrial conglomerate said it was in talks with Areva about keeping its stake in their nuclear power joint venture in Areva NP, formerly known as Framatome, which Areva has an option to buy.
Siemens has a 34 percent stake in Areva NP and Areva has an option until 2011 to buy Siemens out.
