LONDON (Reuters) - Britons have voted the Three Tenors concert in Rome on the eve of the 1990 World Cup as the most memorable cultural event of the last two decades.

Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras took the honours with 49 percent of the votes in a poll conducted for Sky Arts to mark the 21st anniversary of the Hay literary festival, which began on Thursday.

Second in the survey was the 1997 opening in London of the Globe replica theatre followed by publication of the first Harry Potter novel.

Next in line were the launch of the iPod and River Dance's electrifying appearance at the Eurovision song contest.

Over 2,000 people were questioned for the YouGov poll.
