TIMELINE: The return of "dead" canoeist
LONDON (Reuters) - The wife of the "back from the dead" canoeist John Darwin was found guilty on Wednesdsay of obtaining cash by deception.
Here is a brief chronology of the case:
March 21, 2002: John Darwin is reported missing after going out to sea near his home in Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool, Cleveland. Despite an extensive search involving aircraft, lifeboats and a Royal Navy ship, no trace is found of him.
May 7: The smashed remains of Darwin's red kayak are recovered.
Sept 20: Darwin's wife Anne releases a statement through the police in which she expresses her sadness at not having a body to bury so she can move on with her life.
April 10, 2003: A coroner declares Darwin dead at an inquest recording an open verdict into the cause of his death.
December 1, 2007: Darwin walks into West End Central police station in London and hands himself in, saying "I believe I am a missing person."
December 3: Cleveland Police say they are pleased Darwin has been found and would like to interview him as a matter of procedure about his whereabouts over the last five years.
Dec 4: Darwin's sons say their father has no memory of what happened since he went missing. Continued...
