Briefs-Lorenzo fractured foot in U.S. MotoGP crash
July 23 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:
Motorcycling - Spanish MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo has fractured three metatarsal bones in his left foot as a result of his crash at the U.S. Grand Prix in Laguna Seca on Sunday.
The 21-year-old, who is lying fourth in the world championship standings, has crashed out of several races in his debut season in the category.
"I'm in pain and angry that another crash has halted my progress," Lorenzo said. "Luckily I've got time to recover before (the Czech Grand Prix in) Brno, although I will have to do without a holiday."
Gymnastics - Ukrainian rhythmic gymnastics coach and former world champion Irina Deryugina had appealed against a ban keeping her out of the sport until 2016, local media reported.
Sports website www.champion.com.ua said a hearing on the ban, which accused Deryugina of influencing judges and exhibiting unsporting behaviour, will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland on July 28.
Deryugina won four gold medals and three silvers at world championships between 1977-79.
Soccer - Striker Raul is hoping that his international career will be revived following the appointment of former Real Madrid boss Vicente del Bosque as coach of European champions Spain.
