AMSTERDAM, April 25 (Reuters) - A former Bosnian Croat commander convicted of the persecution and torture of Bosnian Muslims during the 1992-1995 war has been transferred to Italy to serve out his 20-year jail term, the Hague Tribunal said.

Mladen Naletilic, also known as "Tuta" was convicted in 2003 of war crimes including the forcible removal of about 400 Muslims from the villages of Sovici and Doljani, after which he ordered their houses be burnt down.

Judges rejected an appeal against his conviction in 2006.

War crimes suspects are held at the tribunal's detention centre in The Hague until their legal cases are completed. Those convicted have served their sentences in countries including Germany, Sweden, France, Norway and Britain.
