LONDON, Jan 25 (Reuters) - London-listed Xstrata (XTA.L) said on Friday it has cut production of ferro chome, vanadium and platinum in South Africa to reduce electricity usage in response to a request by Eskom.

Eskom [ESCJ.UL] is South Africa's state power utility.

"The request is due to a number of planned and unplanned outages at Eskom. Eskom anticipates these emergency measures will remain in place for approximately two to four weeks," Xstrata said in a release.

Xstrata said production is continuing at Xstrata Coal's South African operations and that the company is working with Eskom to address any domestic coal supply issues.
