PARIS, July 2 (Reuters) - French telecoms group SFR (VIV.PA) had a strong second quarter in terms of new subscribers for mobile and fixed-phones and is ahead of its sales targets on the iPhone smart phone, its chief executive said on Thursday.

Frank Esser told a group of reporters on the sideline of a telecoms conference that: "We had a good momentum, a very strong second quarter in mobile and in fixed phones."

Esser was answering a query over subscription levels.

SFR, which started selling the iPhone in April, has currently sold over 200,000 units and was "ahead" of its targets despite a global economic downturn.  Continued...
