Mourinho returns home to Portugal

LISBON (Reuters) - Former Chelsea football coach Jose Mourinho's arrival in Portugal brought his home country to a stand-still, prompting a former prime minister to walk out of a television interview after being interrupted.

"Do you think this justifies (the interruption)?," former Prime Minister Pedro Santana Lopes asked the television presenter after the programme was interrupted to show Mourinho's arrival at Lisbon airport late on Wednesday.

"This country is going crazy," said Santana Lopes. "With all due respect, I am not going ahead with the interview. People have to learn."

Mourinho, who has called himself the "special one", won the admiration of millions by turning Chelsea into a winning team and at home is considered a national hero. He left Chelsea last week.

He has appeared in countless marketing campaigns to raise the profile of the small Iberian country but for now Portuguese hopes' that he could lead the national side have been dashed.

The only thing he has said about his next plans is that he is not interested in coaching at home in the short-term and that he wants to coach a big or aspiring European club.
