LONDON (Reuters) - Belgian-Dutch bank Fortis (FOR.BR) is considering selling a majority stake in asset manager Artemis, said a source familiar with the matter on Thursday.

Fortis is buying the stake in the fund investor as part of its deal to acquire part of Dutch rival ABN AMRO. Investment bank UBS is advising on a possible deal, said the source.

Artemis management may try to conduct its own buyout of Fortis's stake, said the source, confirming an earlier report in the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Fortis declined to comment.
