Soccer-Moenchengladbach lose relegation battle
BERLIN, April 29 (Reuters) - Five-time champions Borussia Moenchengladbach were relegated from the Bundesliga on Sunday after Aleminia Bielefeld upset Werder Bremen 3-2.
Bottom-club Moenchengladbach are nine points away from safety with three matches left.
Two rivals, 15th place Eintract Frankfurt and 16th place Alemannia Aachen, meet on Saturday and Moenchengladbach can no longer overhaul them both and get out of the relegation zone.
Moenchengladbach lost 1-0 at home to VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. They were also relegated in 1999 and returned to the top flight in 2001.
Karlsuhe SC became the first second division team to win promotion to the Bundesliga next season with a 1-0 victory over SpVgg Unterhaching on Sunday that left them 12 points clear of fourth with three matches to go.
Karlsruhe were relegated to the second division nine years ago. Behind Karlsruhe on 66 points are Hansa Rostock in second with 55 and MSV Duisburg on 54. SpVgg Greuther Fuerth and SC Freiburg are also on 54 but with inferior goal differentials.
