BORDEAUX, France, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Bordeaux lifted the first silverware of the French season on Saturday when they beat Olympique Lyon 5-4 on penalties to win the Champions Trophy.

The teams were level 0-0 after 90 minutes in the traditional opener to the season and went straight to a penalty shootout without playing extra time.

Bordeaux, Ligue 1 runners-up last season to championship and French Cup double winners Lyon, were dominant but Lyon's new goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made several spectacular saves.

Lloris also saved two penalties in the shootout but victory went to Bordeaux when Lyon's Brazilian captain Cris missed with his spot kick.

Laurent Blanc's Bordeaux side showed they were serious candidates to end the seven-year Ligue 1 reign of Lyon, who had won the previous six Champions Trophy matches in a row. (Writing by Diane Falconer; editing by Rex Gowar)
