Kallio snatches win after leading duo crash out
JEREZ, Spain (Reuters) - Finnish rider Mika Kallio snatched a dramatic win in the 250cc race at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez on Sunday after leading pair Alvaro Bautista and Marco Simoncelli collided on the last lap of the race.
Italian Simoncelli, who had been on Bautista's exhaust throughout the race, ploughed into the side of the Spaniard as they went into a corner and brought both bikes down to give Kallio a free run to the line on his KTM.
Mattia Pasini, who won the season-opener in Qatar, finished second and continues to lead the championship standings, while Japan's Yuki Takahashi crossed the line in third.
"It was a real shame as I really wanted to win in front of the home crowd and I thought I was on my way to doing that," said a distraught Bautista.
