Shares in Bglobal (BGBL.L) rise 2.9 percent after the provider of smart meters for the UK energy market announces Npower will begin trialing the firm's smart meters for its micro-generation customers in late-December.

Ambrian, which keeps its "buy" rating on Bglobal, calls the news a "significant development", saying "this will be a significant market for smart meter players given its size and the strong legislative drivers".

Npower becomes the first major energy supplier in Britain to start installing smart meters for its micro-generation customers.

The trial is part of a wider smartpower programme where there wil be an extensive roll out of intelligent products and services for customers before the full nationwide deployment of smart meters by 2020.
