Fiery Onions leaves West Indies in a pickle

LONDON (Reuters) - England pace bowler Graham Onions celebrated his test debut with five for 38 against some feeble West Indies' batting on the second day of the first test at Lord's on Thursday.

Onions was amply rewarded for 9.3 overs of whole-hearted fast bowling to a full length from the Nursery End to help dismiss West Indies for 152 in reply to England's 377 all out.

After Andrew Strauss had enforced the follow-on, West Indies were 39 for two in their second innings, still trailing by 186, when bad light stopped play.

Onions took three wickets in an over and five in 27 balls with only opener Devon Smith (46) remaining at the crease for more than an hour.

Off-spinner Graeme Swann was England's other hero, scoring 63 not out from 89 balls with nine fours and a six which took him to his first test fifty.

He then picked up three for 16, including the wickets of Smith and Shivnarine Chanderpaul from successive balls.
