DUBLIN, Oct 6 (Reuters) - IIB Bank, the Irish subsidiary of Belgian banking and insurance group KBC (KBC.BR), said on Monday it had applied to be considered eligible for the Irish government's bank guarantee scheme.

"IIB has applied to be considered eligible for the scheme," a spokesman said.

The Irish government has said it may extend the scheme, which covers 400 billion euros worth of deposits and debt of six Irish institutions, to foreign banks with retail units in Ireland and that applications would be considered on a case-by-case basis.
