Europe shares extend losses as Wal-Mart disappoints

LONDON, Jan 8 (Reuters) - European shares extended losses after U.S. futures dropped following news Wal-Mart (WMT.N: Quote, Profile, Research), the world's largest retailer, reported December same-store sales figures that missed expectations.

By 1301 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European companies was down 1.8 percent at 862.43 points, while futures for the Dow Jones industrial average DJc1, the S&P 500 SPc1 and the Nasdaq 100 NDc1 were 0.5-1.2 percent lower.

Banks led the fallers on the FTSEurofirst 300. Standard Chartered (STAN.L: Quote, Profile, Research), HSBC (HSBA.L: Quote, Profile, Research) and Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) were down 1.5-4.9 percent.
