Canada's Verenex makes new oil find in Libya
TRIPOLI, July 29 (Reuters) - Canadian energy company Verenex (VNX.TO) has made a new oil discovery in the Ghadames Basin in Libya, Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Tuesday.
The find was made in exploration well A1-47/02 in Ghadames Basin, about 180 km (110 miles) south of the capital Tripoli, NOC said in a statement posted on its website.
The flow was through choke size 32/64ths of an inch, with oil rates 1,399 barrels per day for a depth of 10,189 feet and 1,535 barrels per day for 8,045 feet depth, the Libyan company added.
NOC said it has an 86.3 percent interest in the operation while Vernex holds 13.7 percent together with Medco.
Verenex won a permit to explore the area in partnership with NOC at an international oil exploration bid round in 2005.
Early in December, NOC had said Vernex had made its fifth oil discovery in the Ghadames Basin. (Writing by Lamine Ghanmi)
