RPT-European shares extend gains, energy firms rise

LONDON, Dec 9 (Reuters) - European shares extended gains by mid-morning on Tuesday, as energy companies rose with crude prices paring losses from earlier in the session.

At 1039 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares was up 1.1 percent at 858.02 points.

Crude CLc1 was down 28 cents at $43.43 a barrel, having risen strongly on Monday. BP (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research), Total (TOTF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) and Royal Dutch Shell (RDSb.L: Quote, Profile, Research) were up between 1.2 and 2.6 percent. (Reporting by Brian Gorman)
